The whole “don’t really have any” referring to the history of Australia pisses me off beyond belief. Especially the whole “it’s only 112”. For whatever intent or purpose the slideshow was meant to be full of satire and I get that, but it seems as if the whole population is generally ignorant of Australia’s indigenous history and for no other reason than they refuse to educate themselves. Australia’s history begun thousands of years before Britain inhabited this land, and our country has some historic and disturbing past, that’s unlike any other so in no way would I say that nothing really happened in Australia’s history; because it was full of pain and racial oppression. As a young Indigenous Australian it’s actually a punch in the face to have our countries past disregarded by our own citizens, especially since I’ve been exposed to racism all my life because physically I’m not “black”, thus I shouldn’t call myself an Aboriginal Australian. This country is extremely rich in culture that truly is so beautiful and extraordinary and it’s not being recognized, not by Australians or any other person around the world, and I just wish this Australian population (with its traumatic happenings being ignored) would at least appreciate Indigenous culture and be proud to at least acknowledge it exists.
